Diagnosis: Spinal Muscular Atrophy. (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting
the part of the nervous system (from the spinal cord) that controls voluntary muscle movement. The primary effect is on muscles,
which don’t receive signals from the nerves, so muscles become inactive and begin to waste away. The biggest problems
in SMA, are: respiratory & swallowing muscle weakness, back muscle weakness with progressive spinal curvature, and wasting
of muscles in legs causing wheelchair dependency.
