This is just a quick note to tell you that I've signed up to help MDA NORTHERN INDIANA at the 2013 Noble County Ornaments of Hope, and I need your help. The event takes place on 12/12/2013, but my effort begins today, as I start raising funds toward my goal.

I am sponsoring Grant for summer camp next year. His profile is below.

If you can, just click here to make a secure, online donation before 12/12/2013. I know there are many different events out there, but I chose MDA’s. It provides more comprehensive services to families with muscle diseases than any other organization. I like that the money I raise impacts families locally in our community.

To mail in a donation: Make all checks payable to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and please put my name in the Memo field.

Mail to:
Gregg Parker
111 Cedar St,
Kendallville, IN, 46755-1807

I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Meet local camper Grant!

Age: 16

Number of years at camp: 6

Favorite camp activities: Wheelchair basketball, Scavenger Hunt, Archery, & Arts and Crafts.

What Grant enjoys most about camp: Being around his MDA friends for an entire week– playing cards, telling jokes and just hanging out.

Interests: Playing video games on an X-Box, Basketball, and listening to music!

Diagnosis: Spinal Muscular Atrophy. (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system (from the spinal cord) that controls voluntary muscle movement. The primary effect is on muscles, which don’t receive signals from the nerves, so muscles become inactive and begin to waste away. The biggest problems in SMA, are: respiratory & swallowing muscle weakness, back muscle weakness with progressive spinal curvature, and wasting of muscles in legs causing wheelchair dependency.
